The first time you charge the remote it is best to let it charge for 24 hours. After that you may find charging over night is enough. The remote is charged via the micro-USB jack on the side of the remote under the yellow gasket tab. Lift the tab and plug in the USB to micro-USB cable to the remote. Then plug the USB end into a laptop or a smartphone charger.
